DELRAY BEACH’S PREMIER GREEN MARKET
It’s back! Just like they have been doing since 1996, the Delray Beach Green Market has become a Saturday morning destination. This outdoor marketplace offers fresh local produce, seafood, eggs, breads, and doggie treats, including organic. There are exotic teas and spices, fresh cut flowers and more. If you love food, you already know this is a can’t miss. Of course, your belt and your waistline may be waiving the white flag, but there are healthy options too.
I’ve been to the Delray Beach Green Market many times in the last decade and never once walked away empty handed. In fact, there were times those baked goods did not even make it home! (OK, OK, it was only once I actually had to get wheeled home.) If you have a 4-legged friend or two, make sure you do not miss Tweedle Pet Products
It’s Not Just the Food
There is also entertainment being offered at the Green Market. As has been the case for the last few years, they have live music every week from 12 pm to 2 pm. Need something for the kids? There is something new this year called the “Budding Artists” booth, presented by the the Delray Beach Center for the Arts at Old School Square, located right next door to the Green Market. Here kids will be able to create works of art from recycled and natural materials. Cost is $ 3. An art teacher from the Center for the Arts will be leading the kids with Delray Beach High School volunteers helping out. Pretty good, huh? Kids get to learn about food and art at the same time.
Insider Tips
Bring your own water! You don’t want to end up paying who knows what for a bottle of water.
Bring Cash: Some of the vendors may take cards, but it’s usually much faster if you have cash. Some vendors will only take cash so make sure you don’t miss out on your favorite delicacy because you don’t have cash. Like that fabulous organic delicata squash I picked up!
Parking: Free parking is available in the Old School Square public parking garage, on the southwest corner of NE 2nd Avenue and NE 1st Street.
Trick or Treat at the Market: (October 26, 2013) – Live pumpkin carving demonstrations and trick-or-treating for Halloween fans young and old.
